Jean-Paul Manuel
Mobile engineer by background. Product engineer by practice.
for communities, parents, developers, teams doing difficult work, businesses, and myself.
Apps, systems, tools and experiments, usually somewhere between a real problem, a blank editor and the stubborn need to make it work.
Mauritius · Building since 2009
I started with small screens.
Then the apps got bigger. The systems around them did too.
Over time, the interesting part stopped being any one framework or platform. It became the whole product: the problem, the architecture, the trade-offs, the people using it, and whether it actually shipped.
I still write the code.
03 / Work
Not everything here is live today. But each became a real product: designed, built, tested and learned from.

The dangerous part of knowing how to code is eventually building your own tools for everything.
Some ideas need more time. Some change shape. Some are worth leaving unfinished until the problem becomes clearer.
Open question: How direct can giving become?
Small enough to explore quickly. Useful enough to change how I think about bigger systems.
Some shipped. Some didn't. They all taught me something.
Side projects show what I choose to build. My career shows what I learned building with teams, deadlines, constraints, long-lived systems and real production users.

PlusNarrative
Working across mobile product engineering, architecture and delivery on production systems for complex operational environments.
My role extends beyond implementing individual features: I help shape solutions, untangle technical constraints and work across product, frontend, backend and delivery concerns when the problem requires it.

Yoyo
I joined Yoyo as a Senior Mobile Engineer and later moved into technical leadership.
The role combined hands-on mobile engineering with technical direction, mentoring, delivery and ownership across production applications and long-lived codebases.
It was an important stage in moving from being responsible for the code I wrote to being responsible for how a team built and shipped software together.
2019 to 2021
Mobi Move
A role that combined hands-on Android engineering with project delivery, planning, client communication and team coordination.
This was where my work began widening substantially beyond implementation and toward ownership of the whole delivery process.

The years that built the foundation.
Android, web, client projects, production support, different industries, changing stacks and a lot of lessons that still influence how I build today.
Before product engineering, there was a lot of engineering. Some of these products are long gone. Some only make sense in the context of the phones, platforms and constraints they were built for. They still matter. They are part of how I learned to build.

I'm JP.
I'm JP, a Mauritius-based engineer who has spent more than fifteen years building mobile apps, web products, APIs, internal tools and the systems around them.
I started in Android.
Over time, the boundaries got less interesting.
Today I am most useful where product thinking, architecture and hands-on engineering meet: figuring out what should be built, how the pieces should fit together and then helping build the thing properly.
I still enjoy getting close to the code.
I still start side projects because a problem bothers me.
And I still think shipping something useful teaches you more than talking about building it.
If you're working on a product, a difficult technical problem or a system that has outgrown its first version, I'm always happy to have a conversation.
